edits
I just totted up all the fanfic I've written over the last two months and it's over 70K.  So glad I stopped that and started editing UPSUN, which is driving me spare. I am past the half-way point and hope to be done by the weekend.

Jeff was hoping to go to Victoria for the weekend but the weather went kasplodey and we got six inches of snow in a really big hurry.  I shoveled three times in a single day, and I'm glad I did because what was left turned to ice and became impossible to shovel.

Still working at the call centre.  Life is weird.

Prequel
I'm 15% complete on the prequel for the trilogy, and if you feel like reading it, it is on my site, allegrasloman.com, under the tag Midnite Moving Co.  Sections are numbered, and I'm trying to publish 6 days a week.

The plot is "The man who smartened up". It's told in a series of stories about two Vancouver SJ Warriordudes, one of whom is an alien, but keeping mum about it and a young man with not one but two chronic illnesses (Idiopathic atypical solar urticaria and PTSD from his traumatizing childhood).

Have fun, I sure am.

2016, a record setting year for toxic religion
Scattered thoughts.

So Omar Mateen, currently recovering from wounds inflicted by the Orlando Police Department, killed 50 people and injured roughly 50 more. He shot and killed one person in 6000 living in Orlando.  Not quite decimation, but there will not be a single person in Orlando unaffected by this heinous and ultimately fucking stupid and pointless act.

Real sorry that men kissing gives you the squick, Omar.  Real sorry that many will look at you and think "Closet case with a Koran and an assault rifle." If you survive, you are going to be doing the very hardest of hard time. And I know, or can readily predict, that you will never express a moment's remorse for what you've done.  It was God's will you enacted, and it's God alone you think you will answer to, petty legal troubles aside.

May the wrath of the internet descend immediately upon the fucked up GOP punters who are thrilled beyond words that Mateen is a registered Democrat.  Go fuck yourselves with a monkey puzzle limb, junkbrains.

I would like to take a moment to feel sorry to the point of tears for his wife and young son.  I bet they leave the country. There will be no place safe for either of them, even if they move and change their names.

My circle of acquaintances and friends is pretty average for somebody in filk fandom who occasionally (I'm going today for an elder's tea party, but I'd dropped out) goes to a U*U church. But I know probably about a thousand people to be able to put a name to them. If a shooting like this happened in Vancouver (may providence forfend) I would either know a victim or be one step removed from them socially.  It would tear this town apart. And we're ten times larger than Orlando. The emotional spillover will be huge, grotesque, frightening, jarring and wrenchingly sad.

I wonder how many gay American men are going to decide to buy a gun tomorrow. Just because the war is undeclared doesn't mean it isn't happening.

I am thrilllllled to report
The third novel in the trilogy is finished. I have lots of work ahead of me before they will even be ready to be ebooks, but the big hard work is done, and it took a little more than two years.

I think I will write faster and smarter in future, but who knows.

Off to the pub with fam and friend to celebrate

#ymmfire Fort McMurray wildfire.
Almost 100000 people driven from their homes; first evac centre in Anzac is being packed up and re-evacuated.

Here's some links on how to help via an Edmonton Journal article.

Note to self, ain't never using 'spreading like wildfire' now. Spreading like a virus? Spreading like jam? I think maybe spreading like glitter will do it.

19K to go
Coming down to the short strokes on the trilogy. Half a dozen narrative threads need to be tied off, seeds planted for a "seventy-five years from now" sequel and the happy ending my mOm is demanding laid out like a buffet. This is NOT grimdark, although parts of it are frikkin' dark.

I'll be heading to Victoria to collect the second mss, corrected, sometime this upcoming week. The editing of course is way worse than the writing, and the writing is work.

Jeff took me to brekky this morning and I feel much better, since I had a horrid night's sleep.  There was a rat in my room and the cats for some reason are not chasing it.

Anybody catch what Steve Miller said at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction??

Back to the salt mines....

Upsun is done
The first novel in a trilogy is complete!  I'm hard at work writing the second and blocking the first.

It'll be off to the editor sometime this week.  I'm feeling most accomplished.

Things I managed to jam into one novel: Filk, Unitarianism, a Reddit AMA and a completely gratuitous scene about guns and ammo.

I have met him
The rumoured Alexander exists and has passed inspection as a suitable grandchild.  There are pictures, and I don't feel like posting them (insert grossly normal male infant HERE like I already did on fb and g+ and my vanity blog).  Katie's description of how she ended up at the MIL's did much to mollify me. The birth happened so fast; she more or less went home by way of the MIL, who, after all, lives across the street.

Paul and I got to inspect him together.  Watching him put his grandson in the football hold put a little catch of joy in my throat.  I thanked him so much after - we had dinner and a celebratory brew - as he did me.  He made guacamole and I brought fresh vegan organic chocolate cake, which I hope was devoured by shift two of the foodbringers, being the dyke couple who are Katie's SILs (they showed up with roast beef and yorkshire pudding, may they be worshipped and adored).

I'm having a big family sit down Thanksgiving on Monday.

I am not far from contentment wherever my thoughts stray.

Ableton 9 demo
I've just downloaded the Ableton 9 demo; it's music processing software.

It has the ability to take your singing and turn it into midi.  I will be testing that hypothesis today.

From the blog I Blame the Patriarchy
One of my long-standing beefs is with dudes who love to lecture me that I will never win them over to the feminist cause as long as I keep copping a tude. My response is twofold. 1) fuck you dude, and 2) the moral indefensibility of sexism exists independently of my or anybody else’s demeanor; oppression isn’t any less wrong if the oppressed aren’t ass-kissers. And besides, winning dudes over has never been, to my mind, the objective of feminism. Appeasement will never liberate women from patriarchal oppression. What’s that old bumper sticker? “Well-behaved women seldom make history”?

Heritage Grill
Paul dragged me out of the house last night.  I wasn't feeling up to performing (I actually thought I was coming down with something) but I wanted to check out the Heritage Grill Monday night open mic; when we arrived around 7:30 the room was FULL OF UKELELES. It was remarkable; it was a slo-pitch for ukes, and the full effect was entirely charming.  Paul and I had stupid grins on our faces that lasted until a couple of performers had done the open mike thing; a guy came up who had nothing to say and a peculiarly distressing way of saying it.   I pumpkin out around 9 pm these days so Paul gave me a lift home.  Thank you for foodicles Paul! it was yummy.

I am waiting to hear back from my best recent job interview and have another interview today.  I haven't stopped looking, but man, it's hard!
